July Reflection

I have been working on designing a writing planning format for our Junior digital classrooms. The planning is in a Google Slide format. The Signpost big idea and Illustrations for each level will make up the first 2 or 3 slides so that teachers have a point of reference at their fingertips when deciding what context and content they will include in their plan for each group. They will also have a quick reference to the quality and level of writing at each level.

Here is a presentation with  Signposts 1 - 3 big ideas and their corresponding illustrations.

June Reflection

From my exploring of the LPF Writing I have found that the writing framework prompts you to think about the opportunities we’re providing for students to strengthen their writing in different curriculum contexts.

The framework's illustrations suggest ways you can provide opportunities for students to write for different purposes in different contexts. By highlighting how the texts and tasks in these contexts become more subject-specific, the framework helps you focus on the particular knowledge and skills your students need.

Below are 2 different approaches to planning.

The first approach is what we have focused our writing programme on.

The second approach is where we are heading to ensure we are providing students with opportunities to write across the curriculum – with different content, contexts, and for different purposes

Watch this video of a teacher describing how they plan opportunities for students to write for a variety of curriculum purposes.

The LPF website  provides a wealth of information to support your own PD
in learning to understand the Writing framework.
There are videos, case studies, pld activities and much more. It's like having your own wananga
that you can design to meet your needs.
I would highly recommend that you check this out.

We have also been fortunate to be able to meet together at Te Kona with Jenna Crowley.
These sessions have been invaluable in helping me to develop a deeper understanding of
the writing framework - how to use the aspects for planning,
using the illustrations for assessing student work-feedback and feed forward.
Also understanding about the signposts and the big ideas behind the illustrations.
